We lost a brilliant poet, April 24, 2020
who suffered for human rights.
He sacrificed his own life
and imprisoned lost that fight.

We lost another fighter,
who showed integrity.
He worked for all that ails our world
but truth is hard to see,

We lost half a million people
while this pandemic goes on.
And now the lack of leadership
makes rights for all, undone.

We bathe in echo chambers,
but who listens to a haunt?
The hard work of compassion
shows every life does count.

We clap and sing with pots and pans,
yet, with election needs,
we listen to convenient sounds
protect our own small deeds.

To all the honest fighters
who were silenced in their call:
We learn one day that freedom
was the highest gift of all.
